The training program is split into two parts. During the practical portion of the class, you will learn how to approach a grading session, translate looks from HDR and SDR, and how to get the best image quality in the shortest possible time. This part is designed to expose attendees to a variety of HDR material. From dark night scenes, studio and VFX scenes to bright exterior scenes, we will work with perfectly shot material and deal with problem shots like noise, archive footage or overexposed material.

The result is lower latency, faster UI refresh and rendering and better support for tricky formats like H. DaVinci Resolve (Free) vs. DaVinci Resolve Studio (Paid): which one is better
Checking the task manager, it appears that Resolve is using the GPU better for playback, while Premiere taps it more during rendering. The gold standard for media organization is Avid's Media Composer, which is designed for large projects with thousands of clips that might be viewed and worked on by dozens of people at a time. Resolve isn't as powerful, as it lacks screenplay integration and other advanced features. However, it's pretty complete otherwise, and I found that I liked it better than Premiere CC for organizing, scaling and searching clips.
I also prefer Resolve 15's cutting tools over Premiere Pro's. It's more intuitive for operations like trimming heads and tails of clips, slipping and sliding moving a clip relative to other clips or changing its in and out pointunlinking clips and more. I also love the "dynamic" trimming that lets you adjust clips while playing them, and the latest version gives you better control over it. One thing I do miss on Premiere, however, is the "Track Select Forward" editing tool that lets you grab the lead clip to move an entire timeline.
Resolve now supports tabbed timelines like Premiere does. It also has a cool feature called "stacked timelines" that lets you position one edit on top of another and drag clips between them. This is particularly handy for editors who throw all their best material into one timeline, then drag the clips over to the final edit.
Finally, the new "optical flow" is a great addition, as it calculates fake "tween" frames to smooth slow motion, even if you didn't shoot at a high frame rate. Before it was an editing app, DaVinci Resolve was a color correction tool, so it's very powerful for that chore. Since it's aimed at professionals, though, the color wheels, curves and bars aren't very user friendly. Adobe's color corrector is better for normals, because it looks more like Lightroom than something you'd see in a fancy post-production studio.
The power is there if you take the time to learn it, though.Instead using metadata we do it directly into the timeline mastering Davinci Resolve by using static and dynamic keyframe grading. When applying the correct values and environment settings you are ready to grade the content to fit accurately into the new standard values. In reality there are different nit values for each situation.
HDR allows to be closer to real life image. When in SDR you can go from 0 to around the nits mark. The colorists are limited into this spectrum for anything in the scene. When in HDR colorist can go from 0 where blacks are not always pure black to When using original SDR cinema content the color should never be changed. Some do it worse than others.
In HDR this problem is even worse. Here in TEKNO3D we are film lovers with the necessary knowledge to do this work properly and most important with passion.
There are plenty of examples where you can notice the studios grade are far from being well done. As mentioned before movie studios just hire freelancers to grade their content to HDR. Freelancers who work for a studio also do it for others at the same time.
Professional High Dynamic Range colorists are just a few today. You can prove this by doing a simple google search to find HDR colorists.
When studios ask a freelancer to transfer to HDR they just give a rate, finish the job as fast as possible and jump to the next. This will always impact in the transfer quality. HDR grade performed from the original source to obtain all exposures and best possible high dynamic range video. Basic HDR10 use a static tonemap over the entire video. When grading in full range you are able to see every single detail among with a higher accuracy in color expansion and HDR contrast.
